Thursday thoughts

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.” – JK Rowling

As a proud member of the Harry Potter generation, I love JK Rowling and her writings. She has created an entirely different and magical world out of the written word that thousands of children get excited to read about. And on top of that, she seems to be a pretty wise gal. See quote above.

I think this quote seems quite obvious once you read it and think about it. I mean, there’s no use in tip-toeing through life. No matter what, the time will pass, people will come and leave, and things will change. This is a guarantee. So why not fail every once in a while? It’s inevitable and it shows that you decided you wanted something and you went for it. Maybe it didn’t work out like you day dreamed about but youΒ did something. As they say for workout motivation, “As long as your moving, you’re lapping the guy sitting on the couch”. Same mentality. Even if you didn’t succeed at first, you’re doing a hell of a lot more than someone doing nothing. Having failures is human and not something to be ashamed or afraid of. You know the whole, you must have dark to appreciate the light? There’s no good without some bad? It’s like that. Failing at something makes your successes that much sweeter. So go find something and fail at it! Then pick yourself up, learn from it, and then kick some ass. Just like Harry Potter and friends at the Battle of Hogwarts.

And if you don’t get the HP references, shame on you. Go read all 7 books. Right now.
